Mikron Berlin designs scalable system for the production of protection face masks
Berlin, May 2020 – Mikron Berlin is taking part in an innovative non-profit project and is realizing mobile automation equipment for the production of protection face masks. Healthcare facilities such as hospitals can easily order the compact assembly systems and set them up on site.
Protection masks play an important role in the fight against the spread of the coronavirus. Mikron Berlin GmbH is therefore participating in a pioneering non-profit project to produce the masks. Within a very short space of time, the specialists in Berlin, together with project partners, developed a corresponding system on which 50 masks can be produced per minute. The clou of the project: The assembly system is so small and handy that it can easily be sent in a shipping container around the world to the recipients – hospitals, other health care facilities, communities, cities, etc. In only three to six weeks the mini factory is set up and ready for use.
The base of this initiative is the non-profit project Carola – an idea driven by volunteers from a variety of disciplines (physics, engineering, economics, etc.). The open source approach gives engineers all over the world access to the know-how needed to produce such systems. And they are invited to work together to further develop and advance the technology.
